Baby Reflex Print E-mail
Written by Donna, My Baby is My Life

A reflex is a movement or action that is performed involuntarily or automatically. Reflex movements which are generally seen only in infancy are called 'Primitive or Infantile Reflexes'. In other words Reflexes are specific, predictable, involuntary responses to a particular type of stimulation.

These are few examples of baby's reflexes:

Moro reflex | Startle Reflex

Moro Reflex is a reflex that disappears after 4 Months. The Moro Reflex appears when the baby feels a sense of falling, when his head falls back, or when there is a sudden noise. The sense of falling causes the baby to stretch his arms and legs, arch the back and pull back the head, then fold back toward the chest with tightly closed punches. This reflex is apparently a survival reflex because when the baby feels danger he clings to his handler.
The test is performed in this following manner - The doctor holds the baby in his hands while the baby's face referred toward the doctor's face and the doctor lower his own hands quickly down, while he grab the baby. The baby thinks that he is gonna fall and this is start the Moro reflex.

Babinski's Reflex

This reflex disappears after 4-12 months. The test is performed in this following manner - If the doctor puts his finger on the baby's right foot, in response the baby's fingers opening like a fan and his foot turns to the right.

Sucking Reflex

The sucking reflex, which is present in most full-term babies and some pre-term babies, usually fades by around 4 months of age. This reflex is triggered by inserting a finger, pacifier or nipple into the baby's mouth. The sucking reflex is strongest when the palate is stimulated. The sucking reflex is an automatic response and not a clear sign of hunger. (Of course a baby will suck when he is hungry, but he will also suck when he is not.)

Sucking not only provides a source of nourishment, it also has a calming effect for babies. The urge to suck is stronger in some babies than in others. Many babies, particularly those under 4 months of age, will want to suck for periods of time in addition to when they are feeding.

Walking Reflex

The baby held upright over a table so that the sole of his foot presses against the table. The baby then simulates walking by initiating reciprocal flexion and extension of the legs.

Grab Reflex

When you touch the baby's hand with your finger, he will instinctively grabs it and holds it tightly. The Reflex disappeared at the age of six months.

Oh how much we waited for this moment to come – it was the first time my husband and me went out together without our baby girl.

It's been a long month since I gave birth and a very long 6 month since I went out to a party, and when I say "went out" I mean the whole ritual including the search for the right dress, the right shoes, the right makeup and the forgotten excitement before going out to a party.

My mom recruited to help us for this desired operation, going out as a couple, and FYI – The only persons on earth I trust to take care of my special treasure, my baby girl, is her grandmas, my mom and my husband mom. Those are the only persons on our entire universe that I know they have the right sensitivity and trustworthiness to let them take care of my 1 month baby girl.

I told my mom to come at 18:30 so we can get enough time to guide her and prepare her for this impossible mission, babysitting our baby girl, and get out at 19:00.

As if…

We left the house at 20:00, one hour late than we expected…

I think you know this feeling

The feeling that you are looking beautiful…

I stopped feeling beautiful somewhere near the fifth month of pregnancy and the next time this feeling raised up again was the moment we got in our car and I looked to the car mirror, the same mirror that usually twist your face, but in that moment I felt beautiful.

My husband started the car engine and we began our road trip to the party.

In the car

I must tell you that after 20 minuets of pleasant driving, both of us, my husband and me, looked one on each other and said in a weeping voice and a wide smile – "I miss her" –  and we both laughed…

Next stop – Party on

We reached an amazing place with a lot of dolled-up people and very good looking ladies, and that was the moment when my after-birth belly image popped up to my thoughts and the feeling of beautiful squashed. I went to the rest-room to check my appearance and maybe bring back the "beautiful feeling" but in the rest –room I saw a bunch of skinny blondes with 10 feet long legs and very wrinkled buttocks so I escaped from there to my husband arms and surprisingly his first words were – Donna you look so good, I must say I'm amaze!

Ha ha to all those young skinny blondes from the rest-room, I already found my sweetheart…

Information Technology

Thank you god for the mobile phone!

To tell you the truth – we didn't dance wildly but we sure got our stage corner and we hugged a lot and swayed to the sound of the music. Between song to song I called my mom to see if everything is fine and in one of the calls I hear my baby girl crying and the tears raised up and filled my eyes… I love her so much…

Back home

We didn't leave the party because my mom asked us to. We left after 2 hours because we wanted to. I'm not gonna tell you about what happened that night in our bedroom but I'll summarize the hole night adventure by saying it was a very good night and an amazing adventure and I promise you dear mommy readers – It's good to feel beautiful again and it's good to be with your husband like you've been once before but there is no place like home with your baby.
