Food
Food is a substance consumed by animals and plants, eaten or absorbed by the body to provide energy and other consumer materials (such as proteins, salts, vitamins, fats, carbohydrates, etc.). Fluids used for this purpose are called “drink”, but these also come under the definition of food.
Every food has a caloric value, which represents the amount of energy that the human body can produce food by ingestion. Caloric value determined by the amount of carbohydrates, fats and proteins.
The basic elements necessary for proper functioning and health of a person are called “food groups” and they include: carbohydrates, proteins, fats, minerals, vitamins and water. Humans are omnivores, they eat both meat and plant food. Many people refrain from eating meat and animal food products for various reasons (ideological or otherwise). These are called “vegan” or “vegetarian” (depending on how their observance subject and ideology).
